Kahlo's face is printed on a great many things that have little to do with her work. Museum shops are a safer place to look: what they sell tends to start from a specific painting, an exhibition, or a serious book.
We went through the 35 Frida Kahlo items on Gift Shop Atlas and picked 15 from 6 shops, grouped by type. The last section widens to Diego Rivera, because the same shops sell him and the two are hard to keep apart.
The paintings, on a wall or on a table

SFMOMA · San Francisco
Kahlo painted this double portrait of herself and Diego Rivera in 1931, and it belongs to SFMOMA, which keeps the spelling Frieda in the title. The puzzle is 1,000 pieces, 20 by 27 inches assembled, for ages 12 and up. Expect a long evening with the dark green of her dress.

LACMA · Los Angeles
A LACMA poster of Self-Portrait with Curly Hair, from 1935, at 14 by 21 inches. It is a less familiar picture than the ones on most merchandise, which is the point. The size is not one of the common off-the-shelf frame sizes, so check before you promise it framed.

Brooklyn Museum · New York
Self-Portrait on the Borderline between Mexico and the United States, from 1932, printed on acid-free cotton fine art paper. The medium sheet is 16 by 20 inches and there are larger sizes, with optional black or white wood frames. Made to order: allow up to three weeks, and it cannot be returned.

Louisiana Museum of Modern Art · Humlebæk
The 1940 self-portrait with thorn necklace and hummingbird, on an A1 poster (59.4 by 84.1 cm) of 200 g paper. The Louisiana Museum in Denmark published it for its 2020 exhibition Fantastic Women. Frames are sold separately, and it ships from Denmark, so order early.
Books for grown-ups

SFMOMA · San Francisco
A 256-page hardcover, 9.3 by 11.3 inches, about Kahlo's family home in Mexico City. The shop says it was written by her great-nieces, who lived in the house, and that it includes letters and postcards not published before, along with early drawings, clothing and jewelry. Published in 2026, so they are unlikely to own it.

LACMA · Los Angeles
The book of the Victoria and Albert Museum's 2018 exhibition about her clothes and belongings. A hardcover of about 270 by 216 mm, with photography shot at the Casa Azul, six inset booklets of personal possessions, and a 16-page section on her wardrobe. For the person who looks at the dresses first.

LACMA · Los Angeles
The photographer Nickolas Muray made some of the best-known color portraits of Kahlo. This 119-page hardcover by Salomon Grimberg gathers more than 50 of them, with letters and archival photographs that tell the story of the two. It is a tall book, over 12 inches, so think about their shelf.
For children

Art Institute of Chicago · Chicago
A 32-page hardcover picture book from the Little People, Big Dreams series, 9.5 by 7.6 inches, with a timeline and photographs at the back. The story includes the road accident of her teens, so expect a question or two from the listener.

Art Institute of Chicago · Chicago
A box set with rather a lot in it: 24 activity cards illustrated by Manjit Thapp, a 150-piece jigsaw of the studio at the Casa Azul, a fourteen-panel foldout of facts and dates, and an iron-on patch. The activities include making flowerpots and drawing a family tree.
Small things and something to wear

Art Institute of Chicago · Chicago
Self-Portrait with Monkey, from 1938, on a 100 percent cotton T-shirt, made for the Art Institute's exhibition on Kahlo's stay in Paris and her friendship with Mary Reynolds. Sizes run S to XXL.

SFMOMA · San Francisco
A mismatched pair of cloisonné studs by Yellow Owl Workshop, about half an inch each: going by the name, one Frida and one milagro, the small charm of Mexican folk tradition. The gold is 22 karat gilding, the posts are listed as hypoallergenic, and they come in a little glass vial.

Art Institute of Chicago · Chicago
A standard deck from Piatnik: 52 cards and 2 jokers, each with an image of Kahlo's work, many of them self-portraits. The box is about 2.6 by 3.6 inches. Inexpensive, easy to post, and a decent way to learn the paintings while losing at rummy.

MoMA · New York
A 12 by 12 inch wall calendar for 2027 with twelve works by Kahlo, one a month. A calendar is a modest gift with a fixed shelf life, but it is also the only one here that gets looked at every single day for a year.
And two for the Diego Rivera side of the story
These are not Kahlo items. We added them because there are only so many good Kahlo gifts in the catalog, and because anyone who cares about her has opinions about him.

LACMA · Los Angeles
Rivera's Flower Day, painted in 1925 and now at LACMA, on the cover of a journal with 80 unlined pages, 5.5 by 8 inches. The shop notes that it was his first painting to enter a public collection in the United States. Made in Southern California for the museum.

SFMOMA · San Francisco
The catalog of SFMOMA's 2022 Rivera exhibition, edited by James Oles: a 272-page hardcover with 240 color illustrations, covering his work in Mexico and the United States from the early 1920s to the mid-1940s. At 9 by 13.5 inches it is a large book.
How we picked
We read the public catalogs of the museum shops. Nobody paid to be on this list, and no brand sent us samples: we have not handled these items ourselves. Sizes and materials come from each shop's own product page, which is also where you buy.
Prices can change and items sell out. When a pick is no longer listed by its shop, it drops off this page.
